Training youth leaders

Eco-leaders training
Eco-leaders training

Dear Friend,

Warm greetings and thank you very much for your generous support to our project training young leaders on agro-ecology. This subject matter is very important in view of the problem of soil erosion and loss of soil fertility as well as loss of biodiversity especially in the upland areas. The loss of biodiversity means also the loss of livelihoods of future generations and this will spell trouble especially for those who are already poor and who are eking an existence in the mountains. Thanks to a local donor we are able to amplify the results of this project by engaging 120 youth leaders located in 3 municipalities in Misamis Oriental to undertake a 3-day training on crop diversification and sustainable farming. This is with the aim of improving the ecosystem as well as providing food for those who are engaged in farming. The topics being tackled include farm design, most important crop species, farm planning, use of local resources in improving the farm and integration of crops and animals in a farming system. The youth leaders were very enthusiastic especially that after the trainings they were provided with starter inputs such as vegetable seeds, organic fertilizer, chicks and ducklings.

Hoping for your continuing support to this project.

Very sincerely yours,

Jed Christian

Toys provision for children

Toys for children

Dear Friend,

Warm greetings and thank you very much for your generous support to our project providing toys to children and young adults. This project is important since play and leisure are important elements for the growth of a child and here in our villages the access to toys is often lacking. There is a need to provide them with toys as learning tools and we are trying our very best to have this type of access. The problem is that most people take this for granted. This reporting period, with limited support we provided 30 children with games and small toys. Hoping that in the future we will be able to access more support for this very important project. We aim and dream to provide sport equipment such as balls, bats, gloves as well as mind games such as scrabble and other word and math games.

Again thank you very much for your generosity.

Very sincerely yours,

Jed Chrisitan

Producing organic fertilizer

Dear Friend,

Warm greetings and thank you very much for your generous support to our project trying to improve the biodiversity of our mountain areas. We are particularly concerned about the forest or uplant biodiversity and our aim is to plant endemic tree species comprising fruit and timber species. In so doing we will be hitting several goals comprising the improvement of incomes of the beneficiaries as well as improving the soil fertility. Without these 2 goals, biodiversity improvement will be problematic because of continuing encroachment of lowland farmers to the mountains. The government could not prevent this because poor lowland people need also to seek food and provisions and they can get this by eking an existence in forest areas. This reporting period, we are starting a small seedling nursery and model farm and we produce our own organic fertilizer using waste around the farm. This approach is to showcase to farmers that improving the farm can be done with limited resources and using recycled farm wastes.

Again, thank you very much for your generosity.

Very sincerely yours,

Jed Christian
