India Home, Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of South Asian immigrant seniors. We provide culturally and linguistically appropriate social, health, recreational, spiritual, and housing services so that older adults can age with dignity, independence, and connection to their community. We provide culturally and linguistically appropriate social, health, recreational, spiritual, and housing services so that older adults can age with dignity, independence, and connection to their community. India Home was founded in 2007 by a group of pioneering South Asian healthcare providers who had personally experienced the hardship of caring for an elderly parent in the United States. Each founding member faced the challenges of elder care firsthand, whether giving up a job to care for a parent at home, struggling to find culturally appropriate care, or watching a loved one suffer in social isolation. This gap in culturally tailored senior services led to the creation of the first professionally staffed, secular community-based organization in the country dedicated to serving South Asian seniors. Today, India Home offers a continuum of care that meets seniors where they are. Our senior center programs, 3D Care (Desi Dementia Day Care) program, health and wellness programs, case management, and advocacy and awareness campaigns reach physically frail and socially isolated older adults who are often left out of mainstream services. We deliver this work through committed partnerships with senior centers, faith-based institutions, community-based organizations, government programs, and universities. We are also responding to the growing housing and food insecurity crisis facing immigrant elders. Our co-living program offers seniors a safe, affordable, and supportive home shared with peers, reducing isolation while helping them remain independent. Building on this model, India Home is developing an 84-unit affordable housing project that will provide permanent, culturally responsive homes for older adults. We recently inaugurated a smart food pantry that gives seniors and families dignified, convenient access to nutritious, culturally familiar food. Since our founding, India Home has served more than 5,000 older adults from many faiths, nationalities, and linguistic groups. We currently serve over 300 seniors every week across six locations in Queens, New York. Our pioneering work has been recognized by Next Avenue/PBS, AARP, the New York City Council, the New York State Assembly, and many community partners, and has been featured in The New York Times, HuffPost, NBC Asian America, National Public Radio, and other leading media outlets.
