People are already registering for AIDS Walk Portland, and teams are planning costumes and raising money! This year's AIDS Walk will be held at The Fields Park in Portland, Oregon, and will take place Saturday, September 12. Since this is Cascade AIDS Project's 30th anniversary, buzz is really building around this year's event. Don't miss it!
We're looking forward to a big boost in registrants for the Walk over Pride Weekend, on Father's Day weekend this June. At our booth on the waterfront, we'll have games and other fun incentives for people to register using the laptops we'll have on hand to make registration a cinch.
In the meantime, we've been accomplishing a lot toward our mission of preventing HIV infections, supporting and empowering people living with and affected by HIV, and eliminating HIV-related stigma and health disparities. We're broadening our work with trans* people, a small community but onedisproportionately impacted by HIV. We're also deepening our ties in the Black community and strengthening our one-on-one assistance to HIV-positive people who also struggle with mental illness and substance abuse. As our fiscal year draws to a close, we'll have a lot of encouraging accomplishments to report.
We're looking forward to seeing you on Saturday, September 12, 2015, at The Fields Park! Don't miss the fun, and--more importantly--don't miss the chance to do your part to end HIV.
It's hard for us at Cascade AIDS Project (CAP) to believe, but AIDS Walk Portland 2015 is only 8 months out! Thanks to the success of last year's venue, we're holding AIDS Walk again at The Fields Park in Portland's Pearl District. It take place Saturday, September 12, 2015.
Like last year, besides a roomy park to gather for the Walk, see your friends, listen to the program, and cheer the step-off, we'll have a dog park, a beer garden, and food concessions. (With any luck, Mother Nature will comply with the same beautiful weather as last year, although perhaps not quite so toasty.)
It's CAP's 30th anniversary this year, too! We expect a super-charged atmosphere to commemorate just how far we've come in three decades fighting HIV/AIDS. Come join us, and bring the family. We're planning a wonderful, inspiring event!
Thanks to all of you and your support, AIDS Walk Portland exceeded its goal of raising $450,000 toward its mission of preventing HIV infections, supporting and empowering people affected and infected by HIV/AIDS, and eliminating HIV/AIDS-related stigma. This is hugely meaningful to us at Cascade AIDS Project--both the funds raised, and all the support the 10,000+ walkers showed!
This year, AIDS Walk was at a new location--The Fields Park--and on a new day, a Saturday. It was an amazing day of blue sky and full sun, and Governor Kitzhaber appeared as a surprise guest speaker to rally us all on. The feeling of community and support in the fight against HIV and AIDS was strong, and besides that, people had a really great time!
Again, thank you all so much for supporting Cascade AIDS Project through AIDS Walk Portland 2014. Mark your calendars for AIDS Walk Portland 2015 on Saturday, September 12th. The Fields Park was a hugely successful location, so we're holding it the kick-off there again, to be followed by a 2.5-mile walk through Portland.
See you next year!
