Update on barefoot-run project for flood relief

Fodder for Cattle from Coimbatore
Fodder for Cattle from Coimbatore

The project got a fantastic start because of the gravity of the situation and also the uniqueness of the project. The situation demanded all efforts to target the state of Kerala and rescue as many animals as possible in a short time. Many animals were stranded as people could not carry them along while escaping the devastating floods.

The primary objective was to procure life-saving equipment as well as identify safe areas to house these animals. Your prompt and generous donation helped us in saving more than 100 animals and rushing food and medical supplies to them immediately. A few pets could be reunited to their parents bringing much relief and joy to both. Many animals that were rescued were sick that needed immediate treatment and your donations helped us buy life-saving drugs and covered expenses for their transportaion to places where veterinary facilities were available.

Many healthy animals were vaccinated, spayed/neutered and put up for fostering/adoptions. Your 10 USD donation helps us to vaccinate a companion animal and your 25 USD donation helps us to spay/neuter a companion animal thereby facilitating their fostering/adoption.

The pictures below stand testimony to your genorosity and compassion. The work is still ongoing, as many shelters need massive repairs after the floods - raising the floors, putting new roofs, etc. We are still short of our goal and are appealing again to share and spread the campaign so that we can together make a tremendous difference in the lives of many animals displaced due to the floods.

July and August Update of the HAS Sanctuary Animals

Precious Shiny Getting Better and Stronger
Precious Shiny Getting Better and Stronger

July and August saw an unprecedented increase in the number of rescues at Humane Animal Society which proved both challenging and rewarding. Challenging, as we struggled to cope with the influx; and rewarding, as many of them responded and rebounded miraculously. The remarkable stories of Shiny, Simran, Suki, Pogo and Weezer were made possible only because of your thoughtful donations. While Suki was successful in finding her forever home and loving family, rest of our rescues have become permanent residents of our sanctuary.

Shiny came to us suffering from severe trauma to the head, and for the first week she would simply walk around in circles and cry when we touched her. It was indeed a sad sight to watch her continuously circling inside the cage. She was completely unaware of her surroundings and did not respond to voices. Thanks to your generous donation, we were able to give her all the medical care and attention that we could. We are happy to say that she has made tremendous progress. She no longer circles, but stands up and can eat solid food all on her own. Not only that, now she happily spends her days slowly exploring the surroundings and enjoys curling up for a siesta in our volunteer room. Her vision is still partial, however, we are optimistic of her making further progress. Thanks to you, even if nobody came to adopt her, she will have a forever home at the sanctuary.

Simran and Pogo were road traffic accident victims right during their puppyhood. Your generous donation of 50 USD each has helped to cover their medical expenses for a month. They are suffering from spinal injuries and thanks to you, we have been able to get flotation vests which has enabled life-saving hydro-therapy for them. With your help and generosity, we can give life-saving treatment and therapy to many more pups in need. Your 20 USD donation will help us procure a flotation vest for one differently abled rescue animal.

Weezer came in with intense pain, paralyzed with fear, screaming non stop and struggling to breathe and we all thought that she wasn't long for this world. With a deep bite wound on her neck, we don't know how long she had been lying suffering before she was found. Next came the potentially deadly disease of parvo which is easily spread among young ones with poor immune systems, followed by a skin infection and then pyrexia. Overcoming every single hurdle, now, this happy, healthy teenager gambols around the shelter like a newly born foal, unsteady on her long legs but full of confidence and very much loved by all. While she does have some mild scarring from a skin infection, and weakness in her hind legs, she is ready to be adopted and we are waiting for the lucky family who can claim her as their own!

Suki was rescued as a helpless pup. With her unusual markings and cautious personality, she attracted lot of attention - but not so much to help her get adopted soon enough. She was under our care for more than a month and grew healthy and confident in the mean time. Your donation helped us care for her until a great family came forward to adopt her. We were happy to see her find her forever home and are deeply thankful for your support in helping us make a positive change in her life.

Our heartfelt gratitude and sincere thanks to your kindness and compassion. Please do share the word and help us get more animals on their feet!

May and June Report for the Sanctuary Animals in Coimbatore, India

Precious Peanut Safe and Sound!
Precious Peanut Safe and Sound!

May and June brought us the much needed rains and all our animals rejoiced along with us as the dry parched land gave way to lush green grass and the trees swayed contently as the steady showers caressed them. There was a bit of disappointment as the number of new donations were very few during these two months; however the thoughtfulness behind the recurring donations helped us sustain the project and also facilitated few critical rescues and a number of adoptions.

Thanks to your support, Peanut - a helpless innocent puppy completely covered in tar is now safe and sound with us. He is all hale and hearty waiting for his forever home and loving family. He rightfully earned his name after being smeared with generous quantities of peanut that was used to remove the tar sticking all over him!

Chaser's story took an unexpected turn when he was hit by a fast approaching vehicle that left him severly injured and resulted in having to amputate one of his limbs. Your donation funded his treatment and care and he is now up and about as a fiesty tri-pawd pooch. Unfortunately, due to him being tri-pawd now and his chasing nature which is hard to curb, he can’t be released back into the streets after recovery. He will soon be one of our permanent sanctuary residents, as his condition would not be conducive for a street life any more.

Thanks to you, senior pets Pigmy - a Spitz mix and Snowy - a labrador, could be rescued and brought under our roof after they were found abandoned on the streets. Pigmy suffered from mammary tumor and Snowy from Pyometra. Thankfully, we could fund both their surgeries from which they have fully recovered now and are ready for a second innings in their lives. They too will now join our ever increasing sanctuary animal family, as left on their own, either would not be able to survive on the harsh streets of India.

Your donations have helped us through and through and we hope you will continue to support us in enabling more animals get a second chance in their lives. Our deepest gratitude and sincere thanks to each one of you for your trust in us in caring for several homeless and injured animals of this city.

Thank you!
