Getting Ready for Impact

The ever-changing COVID-19 seems to be here for longer than any of us had hoped and as a result, we have had to adapt and innovate in order to continue preventing, advocating against, and working to end sexual violence. To this end, we spent the first part of this year developing and modifying resources that will help us reach more people more effectively and efficiently.

Part of this process included beginning to convert our sexual violence curricula into books and digital content that will be more accessible countrywide and globally. Even though we cannot facilitate violence prevention workshops in schools like we used to, we hope that this digitized content will reach even more students than we could have reached through the workshops empowering them with the knowledge and skills they need to prevent sexual violence in their schools and communities.

We thank our generous donors for their support in making these violence prevention resources available to the thousands of students we're reaching out to. Because of your support we're a step closer to building a violence-free world.

Finishing Strong!

Last year, schools were closed for 9 months due to the COVID-19  pandemic. Whereas this affected all students, it was particularly difficult for students in exam classes due to the uncertainty of when they were going to sit their exams and whether they would be prepared for the same.

Two of our high school girls are finally sitting for their final exams this April. Even though they're doing so a little later because of the pandemic, we're confident that they will do well. With the support of our generous donors, we were able to provide safe housing, meals, and individualized tutoring for our high school scholars last year. Those in the exam class got help to understand difficult concepts, build confidence and adequately prepare for the exams. Since they went back to school in January, they have been performing exceptionally well.

Thank you so much for supporting their academic dreams in the midst of this pandemic and helping them finish strong as they complete their high school studies.

Returning to School in the New Normal

Our scholars were home for close to one year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. During this period, we supported their academic dreams by providing safe housing, meals, counseling, and individualized tutoring. With the Government's directive to open schools, they have all resumed school under the new COVID-19 guidelines.

The back to school preparations was different from what we have done in the past as we needed to prepare the scholars to study in the safest way possible. This entailed purchasing masks and sanitizers for them and having talks on how to prevent themselves from exposure to the virus. We don't imagine that this will be easy but we're encouraged by the school's commitment to keeping the students safe and our scholars desire to pursue their academic dreams in spite of the challenges occasioned by the pandemic.

Many students in the country are struggling to study in a safe environment and so we're very grateful to our donors whose generous giving has made it possible for our scholars to pursue their academic dreams with all the resources they need to excel and stay safe and healthy.
