Tana River Life Foundation

Tana River Life Foundation (TRLF) is a charitable organization based in Idsowe Village in the Tana Delta in Kenya. It was founded as a private trust in 2005 by Gabriel Teo Kian Chong, a Malaysian citizen resident in Kenya. TRLF was registered as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) with the Kenya NGOs Coordination Board in 2007. Rebuilding Buyani Secondary School
 
Villages in Chara were destroyed in the ethnic clashes of 2012. Fearing for their lives, the villagers fled before returning to rebuild their lives in the mid 2013. Buyani Secondary School was burnt down. The school resumed in September 2013 with 27 students, down from over 200. This has since risen to over 100. The school needs a generator for students to study at night, a multipurpose room, sports equipment, and funds for students to participate in regional competitions and study trips. project reportread updates from the field
Solar Lanterns for Tana Students
 
Rural schools in the Tana Delta have been usually left out from development plans the communities live off the grid as the power infrastructure doesn't reach their villages. Without light, students are unable to study nor do homework when the sun goes down. Providing solar lanterns will be enable students to do their homework in the evenings, providing them the opportunity to do better in national examinations. Mobile Library for Rural Kenyan Youths
 
This project will operate a mobile library that will ply two secondary schools in the Tana River Delta region in Kenya. It will provide books to 300 secondary school students whose schools were vandalized during the ethnic conflicts during 2012-2013.
