Another Fantastic Summer at Take2!

Dear Friends of Take 2,

We just wrapped up our 10th summer at Take2. The campers and staff have much to be proud of: they worked hard, learned a lot and, most importantly, had a lot of fun along the way. Each camper celebrated so many successes, whether it was….

  • finding that there really is someone who loves Yu-gi-oh as much as I do and while we might disagree about which card is the best, we can still be friends
  • uncovering my strengths and challeges helps me figure out when I need to ask for help and when I can help others
  • realizing that if I lose a game of Connect 4 gracefully there will be opportunities for games in the future because people will want to play with me again
  • investigating what others are trying to communicate through their words, body langague and tone of voice
  • discovering that when I cheer for others, they are more likely to cheer for me and that feels great
  • overcoming a fear of heights, taking a plunge and riding the zip-line at Calleva camp…or
  • figuring out that there is always a Plan B…..

 This summer’s curriculum focused on:

-          Week 1: “Thinking about Me” Labeling my own emotional experience and what strategies I can use to regulate myself when my feelings start to get out of control.

-          Week 2: “Thinking about You”- How do I use the your “clues”… body language, tone of voice and facial expression to figure out what you are thinking and feeling?

-          Week 3: “Thinking about Us”- How do my thoughts differ from yours? How does my behavior impact the thoughts you are having and how can we create good thoughts in one another so that you want to be with me and I want to be with you?

-          Week 4: “Bringing it all Together”- The strategies and skills the campers acquired over the 3 weeks were put into action as we took several field trips and made gifts for one another.

The fun does not cease with the end of summer- social learning groups will continue throughout the year as kids continue to explore the secrets of friendship, tips for how to be flexible and how to set plans to accomplish their goals.

Check our website often to find camp updates, social learning groups and summer 2014 registration.

As always, we are so grateful for your support.

Matching Funds Day...Wednesday June 12th!!

Take2 Summer Camp

Wednesday, June 12

      Starting @ 9am

Dear Friends,

It’s that time again…Global Giving is matching ALL donations we receive, Wednesday, June 12th, at 50 percent
This is a really important opportunity for Take 2.  If you are able, please help us raise the funds we need for this camp season, which begins July1stThe site opens for donations at 9am, please give early before the matching funds run out. You can click here to donate: http://www.globalgiving.org/projects/teaching-children-with-autism/.  You can also learn more there about Take 2.

Our costs are low – other than staff salaries we have very few expenses – but we rely on this help from generous friends because camp tuition doesn’t cover our necessarily low staff to child ratio, and we are committed to providing
financial aid to any family that needs it.

GlobalGiving continues to be a fantastic resource for Take 2.  They give us the benefits of an infrastructure we couldn’t possibly afford, and that allows us to devote more of our time and funds to running a terrific program.

Thank you so very much for any help you can give us.   Please post to your Facebook, Tweet to your followers, or just call or email friends and relatives and let them know about this opportunity to do good.

We’re grateful for your support every day, but on this one day your generosity will be amplified, so please donate if you can.

Thank you!

Getting Ready for Another Great Summer

Dear Take2 Supporter,

July 1st Take2 will embark on our 10th summer helping children with High Functioning Autism develop friendship making skills, and make lasting relationships. We have an incredible group of staff and campers ready to jump into a summer of social learning, and friendship building. When the campers step through door they will transform into friendship detectives. Through the course of the summer the detectives will investigate
what they have in common with each other, study the cues they give one another to describe what they are thinking and feeling (tone of voice, body language and the words we use), all the while uncovering the clues to the “secret of
friendship”. The payoff to their hard work and intensive investigations…lasting and meaningful relationships!

Take2 continues to expand and grow.  This year we partnered with Ivymount School and offered weekly social skills groups following the "Unstuck and On Target" Curriculum. 24 incredible students and their families participated in Saturday social learning groups and parent workshops. The response from the community has been overwhelming and we are excited to announce that we will be offering additional groups this coming fall.

Every year we rely on your generosity to help us offer need based financial scholarships to our families. These scholarships make it possible to provide, so many deserving campers and their families, access to our evidenced based curriculum, highly qualified staff support and parent support and training. From the Take2 families and staff…thank you for your support and continuing to make our vision a reality.

Keep an eye out for our end of summer update where we will share and celebrate the summer’s successes!
