Manoranjani studies in the 9th grade at the
Cuddalore Isha Vidhya
school.

Her father is mentally disabled.
At first, she
studied at a government school. After getting
to know about Isha Vidhya’s
scholarship
scheme, her relatives
approached the school
for her admission. The village head of
Manoranjani’s village also described us
about her family background, and requested
us to give admission
for her with scholarship.

She
joined in the 2nd grade with full education
scholarship.
When she joined, her studies
were okay, but she was hesitant
to mingle
with other children.
By providing continuous
nurturing, the teachers oriented
the student
towards the path of progress.

Now she
excels in academics. She also has
a keen interest in
Art and Craft activities. She
participated in
an exhibition, and got the First
prize from
the director of the Art exhibition
Mr. S
elvaraj. Her favorite liking is her English
class.

Manoranjini is one of 2750+ girl students, who
are supported by the education sponsorships
of Isha Vidhya, which is provided by donors
like you. Our heart-felt gratitude to all of you
for making this possible, and ensuring a bright
future for the girl students!

Editor’s note: If you would like to engage on a
continual basis with this project, we recommend
that you start a monthly recurring donation for

a small amount, thus enabling your contribution
touching the lives of girl students throughout the
year. To start a recurring donation, please visit

Learning Multiplication Through Flash Cards

Learning multiplication could be a tricky concept
for children to grasp.

Dharmapuri Isha Vidhya Mathematics teacher Rohini
planned an interesting activity to teach multiplication
to 4th grade students. Students were given flashcards,
symbols, and place value cards. Students were divided
into groups and instructed to arrange the place value cards
and asked to choose the number (multiplicand & multiplier)
on their own. They were asked to do the calculation and
find the answers. By this activity, students learnt how to
arrange numbers in the correct place values. The students
showed much more interest in the activity when compared
with learning the same concept in a regular class.

We are attaching a few pictures of the activity for your
attention. We hope that you appreciate the alternate
methods that we employ to make education more
interesting.

Editor’s Note:

1. Please write back to us by email at global.giving@ishavidhya.org

"Magic Letter Story" Activity At Dharmapuri School

Magic_Letter_Story_Activity_Dharmapuri_13112019_1
Magic_Letter_Story_Activity_Dharmapuri_13112019_1

The fifth grade students have a story in
their English curriculum called “The Magic
Letter Story”. The story is about a letter
written by a child to their friend. That letter
would be read while keeping it under a
flame.

Isha Vidhya Dharmapuri school teachers
Indira and Rohini decided to explain this
to the students by the way of an activity.
The students were asked to write messages
on papers using lemon extract and then let
them dry. The messages on paper were
then kept under a candle flame so that the
message can be seen. The activity invoked
a lot of wonder and awe in the midst of
students, who were inspired to do more such
activities to learn techniques.

Creative methods like these are used to
teach children the concepts, by the way of
self-directed activities, hands-on and
activity-based learning. This gives the
students a strong foundation on the concepts
that they learn, and prepare them to
keep concepts and practices in memory
by the way of activities.

Editor’s note: If you would like to be
continually engaged with the great work
that Isha Vidhya is doing, you might want
to consider starting a monthly recurring
donation for a small amount. You can do
so at the following link:
