Education Through Music-LA (ETM-LA) empowers low-income kids through quality music instruction as part of a well-rounded education. Research has shown that when music instruction is implemented as part of the core curriculum, children show tremendous improvement in their reading, writing, mathematical, and reasoning skills. This project serves approximately 19,000 disadvantaged students with weekly, yearlong music classes at no cost. They provide music teachers, instruments, and guidance for schools to sustain the program.

There is a direct correlation between youth feeling isolated and increased social anxiety. This creates tendencies for youth who feel like they do not have support to have an increase of conflicts with their peers. This project provides sessions in the fall and spring that focuses on supporting students to deal with social emotional, conflict resolution, restorative intervention, empathy building, and diversity - inclusion critical thinking discussions.

Educators and school administrators have voiced concern over inadequate mental health resources to help children deal with anxiety in returning to the classroom. Research has shown that tree images help students settle down, engage and focus. NITC will install tree ceiling murals in elementary classrooms to create a calming environment for both teachers and students.
