YDCA Liberia's Youth Entrepreneurship and Innovation Initiative will train young people in Brewerville and District 17 over 25 weeks. Prioritizing young women, participants will gain skills in business planning, financial literacy, marketing, and customer service. Training and mentorship in catering, tailoring, cosmetology, and IT will help youth develop business ideas, pursue self-employment, create income opportunities, strengthen household security, and contribute to community development.
Young people in Brewerville and District 17 face unemployment, limited access to vocational training, and few opportunities to develop income-generating skills. Many school leavers lack practical business knowledge, financial literacy, and mentorship to find jobs or start businesses. Young women face additional barriers, including limited access to marketable skills and business support. As a result, many remain financially dependent and unable to reach their full economic potential locally too.
YDCA will use three stages: DISCOVER, TRANSFORM, and CONNECT. Through training, mentorship, and digital learning, young people, especially women, will gain skills in entrepreneurship, financial literacy, business planning, marketing, and leadership. They will identify opportunities, develop viable ideas, and learn to manage small businesses. YDCA will connect participants with professionals and business networks, helping them pursue self-employment and create lasting change in their communities.
The initiative will equip graduates with practical business skills and knowledge to establish and manage small businesses in Monrovia. In the long term, participants will be better positioned to achieve financial independence, create income opportunities, and contribute to community development. Graduates will also be prepared to pursue further training, university programs, entrepreneurship bootcamps, and conferences, expanding their networks and growing as future business leaders.
