Since August 2021, the Taliban banned education for girls above 6th grade in Afghanistan. This put a stop to school projects in the region led by Sahar. Instead of giving up on the girls of the region, we have embraced new ways of working with local teachers and organizations to improve equity for girls in Afghanistan through multiple programs in partnership with local organizations. Current programs focus on literacy, computer skills, English, women's empowerment, sewing, and coding!
We offer online English and computer classes for girls who are prohibited from attending school in Afghanistan. These classes empower them to learn English and use computers, enabling them to connect with the world and access online education. We provide computers and teach computer programming, with professional teachers based outside of Afghanistan.
AAFF operates three computer training centers within public schools for Afghan girls in Northern Afghanistan. Afghan girls are restricted from attending school past 6th grade. Gaining computer literacy opens doors for Afghan girls to learn once they are no longer allowed to attend school. The course is taught by Afghan women who are empowering and inspiring girls to hope for a better future. Yearly, this course provides computer literacy training to hundreds of Afghan girls in grades 4-6.
Digital Education for Afghan Women and Girls will provide online literacy, school education, and digital skills training to women and girls who cannot access formal education. Through live and recorded classes, digital learning materials, and qualified female teachers, participants will continue their studies from safe locations. The project will strengthen knowledge, digital skills, confidence, and future opportunities, helping them build a more independent future.
Action for Development (AfD) plans to establish a hybrid-financed primary health care facility in Kabul, Afghanistan, to ensure affordable quality services to a population of 50,000. This project enables the establishment of a facility (Phase 1) that can then be sustained in the long-term (Phase 2) by user-fees and a small annual donation of USD $7,500.
In Balochistan, Pakistan's largest and most underserved province, young women face enormous barriers to education with a low literacy rate of around 25% compared to the global average of over 70%. From poverty to lack of schools and opportunities, higher education remains a dream for young women in Balochistan, especially in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). We seek to change that by raising funds for STEM scholarships for female students in Balochistan.

During the Safer World campaign, eligible donations to participating projects will be matched from a fund of $30,000 up to $1,000 per unique donor per organization at 100%. Eligible donation methods include credit/debit card, Paypal, individually purchased GlobalGiving gift cards, and M-Changa/M-Pesa. Each organization will be eligible to receive up to $7,000 in matching funds, not including bonus prizes. The campaign begins on September 11, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. EDT and ends when matching funds run out or on December 31, 11:59 pm EST.
