Protect a Rainforest
Rainforest Rescue's 'Protect a Rainforest' project focuses on purchasing rainforest blocks for conservation and protecting them forever, increasing connectivity and protecting biodiversity. Purchasing and protecting rainforest that was excluded from the Daintree National Park and World Heritage Area extends priceless habitat, providing safe havens and nourishment while significantly building on existing protected areas.
Help Orangutans Thrive by Rewilding Their Forests
Sumatra's rainforests are a global treasure, vital for the survival of critically endangered orangutans. With only 14,000 Sumatran and fewer than 800 Tapanuli orangutans remaining, restoring damaged habitat is critical. At SOS, we're supporting the rewilding of degraded landscapes, turning them back into thriving rainforests. The results are inspiring: wildlife is returning to these restored forests, including orangutans, elephants, sun bears, gibbons, leopard cats, and various endangered birds.
Eastern Afromontane Biodiversity Hotspot Program
Stretching across eastern Africa, this hotspot is a mosaic of forests, grasslands and wetlands that provide life-sustaining services to tens of millions of people. These landscapes regulate climate, secure freshwater, and maintain fertile soils that underpin agriculture and regional stability. Despite their richness, they remain under pressure from entrenched poverty and extractive development models. Restoring these ecosystems is vital.
