Hello from Zanzibar!
This holiday season, we are excited to share the latest chapter in the remarkable journey of our computer classroom, and it's all thanks to your generous support.
Expanding IT Possibilities
The computer classroom has become a hive of activity, bustling with the energy of new initiatives. Our latest addition is our new short course series featuring our Beginning IT Program, designed to introduce fresh faces to the practical applications of Windows, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel within the vibrant context of the tourism industry.
Integration into Vocational Training
Our collaboration with the Zanzibar Vocational Training Authority continues to flourish. While the Vocational Training Program already includes an introductory IT course, we've witnessed all six program classes actively engage with the computer classroom for student projects. The pinnacle of their endeavors is the creation of comprehensive business plans for their small tourism enterprises.
Enhancing Typing Skills
Responding to the evolving needs of our students, we're introducing a Keyboarding Course. This not only equips new students with essential typing skills but also enhances their speed, ensuring they are well-prepared for upcoming computer courses and can harness the computer as a more efficient resource. Remarkably, one of our former students has volunteered to lead this course.
Weekend Utilization and Beyond
Our computer classroom is so popular that students are extending their learning beyond regular hours. Weekends witness a flurry of activity as students immerse themselves in utilizing the computers and the internet (for research, class projects, and communication). Your support has truly created a thriving hub of knowledge and creativity.
Empowering Through Seminars
In November, we were honored to host the Libre Foundation's leadership and communication skills training seminar for the second time. The enthusiastic participation of our students and team members affirms our commitment to future collaborations. Additionally, our teachers benefited from a career development seminar, gaining valuable insights and facilitation techniques to guide our students in their pursuit of careers in the tourism sector.
Showcasing Impact
As the year drew to a close, Welcome Ideas proudly participated in VTA Week in mid-December. This provided a platform for our students to shine on television, showcasing their achievements. Government officials and potential students also became acquainted with the diverse programs offered by Welcome Ideas.
As we reflect on the incredible strides of this year, we are eager and optimistic about what lies ahead. Your thoughtful donations continue to propel Welcome Ideas forward, enabling us to expand our programs and maximize the potential of the computer classroom. Thank you for being a vital part of our journey.
Kind regards,
Kenn
