A Zakat for Poor in Balochistan in the Holy Month

By Mehmood Rind Baloch | Program Manager (BRDP)

The "A Zakat for Poor in Balochistan in the Holy Month" project was launched to mobilize Zakat contributions for vulnerable Muslim families across Balochistan who are unable to meet their basic needs. The campaign aims to raise USD 10,000 to provide financial assistance and essential support to impoverished households, particularly during the Holy Month when the demand for food and other necessities significantly increases.

As of this reporting period, the project has raised USD 129 through the GlobalGiving fundraising platform. In accordance with the project's objectives, the full amount has been distributed as Zakat assistance to eligible poor Muslim beneficiaries after a needs-based assessment.

The assistance reached families experiencing severe economic hardship, including daily wage earners, widows, elderly individuals without regular income, and households living below the poverty line. The funds enabled beneficiaries to purchase essential food items and other basic necessities, helping them observe the Holy Month with greater dignity and security.

Despite the challenging economic conditions in Balochistan, the project continues to serve as an important source of support for vulnerable communities. The demand for Zakat assistance remains high, and many deserving families are still awaiting support. Continued fundraising efforts will enable the project to expand its outreach and provide assistance to a larger number of eligible beneficiaries across the province.

The Balochistan Rural Development Program (BRDP) remains committed to ensuring that all funds are managed transparently and distributed to deserving beneficiaries in accordance with the principles of Zakat and humanitarian accountability. Progress updates will continue to be shared as additional funds are raised and further distributions are carried out.
