"And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people." — Ephesians 6:18, NIV
The best way to teach children about prayer is to model it for them, to include them in the act of praying and to focus on them in our prayers.
As moms and dads, grandparents and friends, we yearn for each child in our lives to have a deeply personal and meaningful relationship with God. When you pray with, pray for, and pray about that child, their relationship with Jesus is developed further. A healthy and robust prayer life being modeled for a child helps the little ones learn how to bring their praises, questions and concerns to the Lord at a young age. Prayer is also an effective method of relational development when attempting to empathize with and learn more about others.
When a face-to-face relationship isn't possible, prayer helps bridge the gap and provide a shared experience between two people — regardless of whether the gap is physical, emotional or spiritual.
As sponsors who want to develop a relationship with our sponsored children, we can pray for our heavenly Father to move in their hearts and transform them to be more like Christ — just like the little ones pray for us.
