A special event for our library members!

The natural arts and crafts creations
The natural arts and crafts creations

Last month, a group of students from Sekolah Pelita Harapan (SPH), an international school in Jakarta, did their community service activities at YUM’s community centre in Cipanas, West Java. One of the activities was to engage with our library members through 3 different activities: arts & crafts, dancing and outdoor games.  Around 120 children came to our center that afternoon.

For the Arts & Crafts activity, the theme was natural creation, and the students used materials such as dry leaves and glitter to create beautiful pieces to take home. The Dancing activity consisted of SPH students teaching our beneficiaries popular dances from the Tik Tok application. Since some of our own students also happen to be members of the library’s Dance Club, they were able to show the SPH students the traditional dances that they had learned. Lastly, for the Outdoor Games, the SPH students organized activities around basketball and football/soccer.

It was a busy and fun day. The children loved having the SPH students come by and play with them.

“It was so much fun. All of them are good big sisters and brothers. I would love to dance with them more” (D, 4th grade)

“Although it was tiring because we were moving all the time, playing football with them was so much fun.” (SA, 5th grade)

Your continuous support to this project makes it possible for us to create memorable memories with the children in West Java, and continue providing ways to increase the quality of education that they receive, be it through books, after school tutoring, educational games and through these experiences with students from Jakarta.

As we approach the end of the year, we would like to invite you to continue supporting us by sending a donation, or even better, please consider transforming your one time donation into monthly giving, which would provide us with a more sustainable source of funds that we can use to plan our programs, create budgets, and expand our services. Thank you always for your support and generosity!

We wish you a wonderful holiday!
