BuiBuilding Skills, Confidence and Opportunities for Young People

Building Skills, Confidence and Opportunities for Young People

During this reporting period, Saidika Organization continued implementing the Youth Venture Lab, creating opportunities for young people to strengthen practical skills that can support their transition into employment, entrepreneurship and more sustainable livelihoods.

Our work focused on four interconnected areas: CV writing and career readiness, green economy awareness, financial literacy, and mentorship. We designed these activities around a simple understanding: young people need more than information. They need practical skills, confidence, guidance and opportunities to apply what they learn.

1. CV Writing and Career Readiness

One of the key areas of support was CV writing and job-readiness. Young participants were guided on how to present their education, skills, volunteer experience, leadership abilities and other forms of experience in a clear and professional way.

For many young people, particularly those entering the job market for the first time, preparing a CV can be challenging. The sessions therefore went beyond formatting and focused on helping participants understand how to communicate their strengths and tailor their applications to different opportunities.

This activity also opened conversations around employability, professional communication and the importance of continuously developing skills.

2. Green Economy and Future Opportunities

The Youth Venture Lab also introduced young people to opportunities within the green economy.

Participants explored how environmental challenges can create opportunities for innovation, entrepreneurship and employment. Discussions covered areas such as sustainable businesses, responsible use of resources, recycling, climate action and environmentally conscious approaches to enterprise.

Our intention is to help young people see climate and environmental action not only as a responsibility, but also as an area where they can develop solutions, businesses and careers.

3. Financial Literacy

Financial literacy was another important component of the programme.

Participants were introduced to practical principles around budgeting, saving, responsible financial decision-making and managing personal resources. These conversations were designed to help young people develop healthier financial habits and make more informed decisions as they pursue employment and entrepreneurship.

We believe that financial literacy is particularly important for young people beginning their economic journeys. Skills such as budgeting and saving can help individuals manage limited resources while building towards longer-term goals.

4. Mentorship and Personal Development

Beyond structured training, the Youth Venture Lab placed emphasis on mentorship.

Participants had opportunities to engage in conversations around career development, entrepreneurship, leadership, personal growth and navigating challenges as young people.

Mentorship provides something that a training session alone cannot always provide: someone to listen, ask questions, share experience and encourage the next step.

Through these interactions, we continue to create a supportive environment where young people can reflect on their goals and identify practical steps towards achieving them.

What We Are Learning

One of our key lessons is that youth empowerment works best when different forms of support are connected.

A young person may need a strong CV to access an opportunity, financial literacy to manage the income that follows, green-economy knowledge to identify emerging opportunities, and mentorship to remain focused while navigating the journey.

For this reason, Youth Venture Lab is being implemented as a skills-to-opportunity pathway, rather than as a series of disconnected training sessions.

Looking Ahead

In the next reporting period, Saidika Organization will continue strengthening the Youth Venture Lab by:

  • Expanding practical employability and CV-writing support.
  • Increasing awareness of green economy and climate-related opportunities.
  • Strengthening financial literacy and entrepreneurship education.
  • Providing continued mentorship and career guidance.
  • Connecting young people to relevant opportunities, networks and resources.
  • Strengthening follow-up to understand how participants apply the skills they gain.

Our longer-term goal is to help young people move from learning to action—from gaining knowledge to building careers, starting enterprises, developing solutions and contributing positively to their communities.

Thank You

We are grateful to the GlobalGiving community and supporters of Youth Venture Lab for investing in young people's potential.

Your support helps create spaces where young people can learn practical skills, ask questions, build confidence and explore pathways towards economic opportunity.

At Saidika Organization, we believe that when young people are given the right skills, mentorship and opportunity, they can become not only beneficiaries of development, but active contributors to the future of their communities.
