Pescar Foundation Video [Song Lyrics]
Pescar offers training and education courses to assist and prepare low-income young adults in Argentina to enter the labor market. Local companies work with Pescar and help instruct the nine month long courses. Currently Pescar has 167 beneficiaries, 56 individuals enrolled in courses, and 111 individuals who have completed their coursework. The rate of successful job placement for the individuals who have graduated from the Pescar program is 60%.
Egardo Palmero, President of Grupo Palmero, describes the work of the Pescar Foundation as following a model that is efficient, productive, and founded on solidarity. Pescar allows businessmen and women from various companies to mentor and teach young people about their areas of expertise. These professionals play an active role in shaping low-income Argetinian teenagers to become successful in the labor market. This project is simple, low cost, and has tremendously positive results.
The Universidad del Salvador Area Pilar is one of the universities who has students who participate in the Pescar program. Fdo. Lucero Sohmidt, an employee of the University, comments that during times of crisis, NGOs and organizations dedicated to the formation of young people serve to get the country back on its feet. Guillermo Guzmán -- a graduate of Palmero -- explained his experience as being very unique. Guillermo was selected to participate in the program because his family did not have the financial resources to pay for his education. The program helped Guillermo to gain a better understanding about how to present himself in a professional manner when applying to jobs. Now, Guillermo has a job working in marketing and merchandising for Coca-Cola Femsa in Buenos Aires. At 20 years old, Guillermo supports his mother and grandfather and is grateful to have found such a great job. Guillermo notices the positive effects the Pescar education and training program has had on his family as well as on his personal development and success.
