Hello friends, and greetings from the rainforest!
The EcoLeaders program has made a few changes on the site, and we want you all to know that we are back, stronger, and more determined than ever. And excited about this year's program. So.
Are you ready?
First, we want to fill you in on what we've been up to in the last few months. As we come towards the end of the rainy season here, the education program is picking up speed and moving into high gear.
During the rainy season our dirt roads can be challenging - they can even be impassable for the school bus. So, rather than bringing the students to our rainforest campus, we send Iracambi representatives into the local classrooms, bringing the students a taste of the big world outside.
You probably know that Iracambi hosts international students, volunteers and researchers from many countries, and these are the ones who go into the classroms to introduce themselves and their countries to the schoolchildren. Can you imagine how exciting this is, in our remote rural area, to learn about countries as exotic as Vietnam, Poland, India, or South Africa?
Our most recent cultural exhange sessions have featured the US, Netherlands, France, UK and, most recently, Germany. Last week Felix and Emil held the local kids spellbound as they introduced them to German language, culture, music, sports, and even their favorite national dish - Black Forest chocolate cake.
In exchange, the Brazilian students cook local dishes for our international students and teach them Brazilian dancing. It's a great way to make friends and promote international understanding.
One last thing before we go.
What about the EcoLeaders? (For those of you who don't know, this is our semester long course for environmental leaders from the local school districts.)
Well, they are gearing up this very week for their first session. They'll be starting next week, and , and competition is hot for fifty of them to convince us why they should become a part of this year's cohort.
Stay tuned for more, and we'll see you again soon. Thanks for supporting us!
