You Are Hearts of Gold is now the Emergency Help fund of Hearts of Gold Foundation in Cuenca, Ecuador. Funds support wildfire prevention and immediate response tools, masks, non-perishable food, medicine, and hydration drinks for the community members and volunteers who bravely fight the fires and prepare us to respond fast to El Nino droughts, floods, and landslides in our communities.
Ecuador is living through a strong El Nino, forecast to last into early 2027. In Azuay, dry conditions fuel wildfires that community members and volunteers fight with too few tools, too little protection, and scarce supplies. The same families may then face drought, crop loss, and water shortages, or heavy rains that bring floods and landslides. Rural and low-income households have little margin to absorb these shocks.
Emergency Help funds a rapid-response reserve. Now: tools, masks, non-perishable food, medicine, and hydration drinks for wildfire volunteers and community members. Next: relief for families hit by El Nino drought, flooding, or landslides. We are already organizing volunteer groups ready to act immediately. We have responded before the 2016 earthquake, floods, and wildfires and we know how to reach affected communities fast.
Over time, this fund gives Cuenca a trained, equipped volunteer network and a standing reserve, so help arrives quickly when disaster strikes. Prepared communities lose less land, crops, homes, and health to fires, drought, and floods, and recover faster. Every emergency we prepare for keeps families from slipping deeper into poverty and strengthens the solidarity that helps us face the next one together.
