Thank you once again for your donation to Support Utila.
We'd like to share with you a short update on what your contribution has helped make possible.
2021 is still slow for economic recovery on Utila, as tourism continues to be minimal. There has been an uptick on construction and repair projects throughout the island, which has helped those working in the construction sector. Bars and restaurants are all still struggling, between a small customer base and the time constraints of curfew limiting their ability to serve customers.
We are however, lucky that there have been little to no new weekly cases of Covid-19 on Utila.
Support Utila has been continuing to provide community assistance, most recently doing more food distributions to those in need, along with additional medications supplied to the Centro de Salud (Community Clinic), and ongoing support via our animal welfare program to help provide low-cost petcare services and rescue to stray animals on the island.
With the vaccines starting to make its way to Honduras, we hope to be able to shift focus into bigger, long term projects later this year, however we remain cautious until both economic conditions improve and healthcare stability is established, and have been preserving our donations to be prepared for any emergencies that may arrive.
If you are aware of community issues that we can assist with on Utila, please let us know.
