2022 Tutoring Report (Jan 1 – December 31, 2022)
Our online Zoom tutoring program dovetails with our case management program to help youth with skills and economic alternatives to prostitution. The pandemic challenged our tutoring program because many clients had children at home, were unstable and unable to focus on tutoring.
However, we tutored 2021 hours to 61 students to prepare them to the High School Equivalency Exam in 12 States
8 youth successfully completed the GED
14 passed portions of the GED (4 portions – math is the hardest)
76% were between the ages of 18 & 24
9% were under 17 (some were children of alumni & we taught them to read
so, they could make up for lost time at school)
The profile of our youth included:
44 females
17 males
29 Latino
21African American
5 Bi-Racial
4 Caucasian
2 Native American
Over ½ were referred by social workers because they were prostituted youth who had aged out of foster care without a high school diploma – a critical step in permanently escaping prostitution.
