Reunited while Ladies' Turn Activities on Pause

Seyni & Gaelle reunite in Morocco for Senegal game
Seyni & Gaelle reunite in Morocco for Senegal game

Ladies’ Turn cancelled our activities for mid-summer and fall. Like many countries, Senegal experienced a wave of cases due to the Delta variant and then another wave because of Omicron. We are hoping to start activities back up in February if the cases continue to go down. We are also hoping for more vaccines for Senegal.

With our activities on pause, we thought we’d give you an update on the Senegalese national women’s team. The national team is in the midst of qualifying matches for the Africa Cup of Nations which will take place in July 2022. Senegal beat Liberia in Monrovia 2-1 on October 20, 2021 and then beat Liberia again in a home game on October 26. The games were played before a limited number of spectators because of COVID-19.

The Senegalese national team also played Morocco in a friendly match on November 30, 2021. Seyni, our President, traveled in her capacity as the Senegalese Soccer Federation’s women’s soccer representative. Morocco beat Senegal 2-0, but despite the loss, Seyni had a great time reuniting with Gaelle, our Communications Director.

In mid-February, Senegal will play the next qualifying round against Mali, first in Bamako and then in Dakar. So go Lionnesses!

Thank you again for all your support and for hanging with us these past two pandemic years. We hope to update you next time with news of lots of girls’ soccer games. Fingers crossed!

Nio Far,

Jennifer and the Ladies’ Turn team
