Women returning to conflict-affected communities in Rutshuru, North Kivu, Democratic Republic of the Congo, need safe and decent housing to rebuild their lives. This project will help vulnerable women and their families access secure shelter through housing assistance, essential repairs, and basic household support. Your donation can help turn a fragile return into a safer, more dignified new beginning.
For women returning to Rutshuru after conflict and displacement, coming home does not always mean finding a home. Some return to damaged houses, unsafe shelters, or buildings stripped of essential belongings. Without adequate housing, women and their children face exposure to harsh weather, insecurity, poor sanitation, and the constant fear of losing what little they have rebuilt. Safe housing is an essential first step toward recovery, dignity, and stability.
Over the next 12 months, this project will support vulnerable women returning to Rutshuru by helping them access safer housing. Depending on each household's needs and the funds raised, assistance will cover essential home repairs, basic shelter materials, and household necessities. Women will be involved in identifying their priorities so support addresses real needs. Progress will be tracked through the number of women and households assisted, housing improvements completed, and families able
Safe housing can give women returning to Rutshuru the stability they need to rebuild their lives after conflict. Over time, improved shelter can support family health, personal safety, children's well-being, and a renewed sense of belonging. By helping women establish a secure place to live, the project can also strengthen household resilience and community recovery, reducing the risk that housing insecurity will force vulnerable families into further displacement.
