Update Sudan Emergency Fund

By Mastora Bakhiet | Executive Director

Update Sudan Emergency Fund
Location: Farms & Zamzam Camp, El Fasher, Sudan
Date: November 13, 2024

The Darfur Women Network (DWN) expresses heartfelt gratitude to our dedicated teams and the invaluable partnership with GlobalGiving. Together, we are reaching survivors of the Darfur genocide residing in the Zamzam displaced persons camp, along with newly displaced civilians from the South, West, and Central states of Sudan. The situation remains dire as the Rapid Support Force (RSF) intensifies its attacks, forcing many to flee and seek refuge under trees in fields around El Fasher.

Ongoing Crisis in RSF-Controlled Regions
With RSF forces seizing control over multiple states, civilians face escalating violence, war crimes, and widespread displacement. Hospitals in these regions have been decimated, and survivors are left without access to basic necessities like medicine, food, and clean water. Many are forced to rely on contaminated ponds, shared with animals, leading to waterborne diseases and increased exposure to mosquitoes.

Critical Relief Provided by DWN Teams
With the steadfast support of GlobalGiving and the Sudan Emergency Fund, DWN’s resilient Team 1 and Team 2 members are courageously working in these high-risk zones to provide essential aid:

  • Team 1 in Zamzam Camp has distributed food to 1,800 families, including 800 families in a second phase. They've also ensured that 200 young children under two years receive food and milk.
  • Team 2 has reached 1,918 families in farm shelters, providing them with vital food assistance. In the recent phase, an additional 600 families were supported. We are also supplying 82 children under two with food and milk, 936 families with food, and 900 families with clean drinking water. Total beneficiaries are: 2533 families received food, 282 child received milk, and 900 families received drinking water. Total beneficiaries are 3715 families.

These efforts are a lifeline for families enduring unimaginable hardship and displacement, bringing them a measure of safety and hope amidst the chaos.

We will continue sharing updates to highlight the dedication of our funders and teams. We are truly honored to serve those who are fighting for survival in these conflict zones, and we remain committed to bringing safety, dignity, and relief to each person we reach.

Thank you for your compassion
