Women in Motion Report

By KERLIN CHARLES | Executive Director

Over the past five months, our project, Women in Motion, hosted on theGlobalGiving platform, has not yet achieved the level of financial support we initially hoped for. Despite these challenges, our commitment to the women and marginalized communities we serve remains unwavering.

Throughout the reporting period, we implemented several outreach and fundraising efforts to increase visibility and encourage donor engagement. This included sending appeals and project information to funders, partners, stakeholders, and community members, as well as promoting the campaign across our social media platforms and organizational networks. While we received expressions of interest and encouragement, these efforts did not translate into the level of financial contributions anticipated.

We recognize that the current economic and social climate has significantly affected many individuals and organizations. Several agencies and partners we reached out to are currently experiencing reduced funding, downsized operations, or closure of programs altogether. Additionally, many people within our communities are navigating their own financial and personal crises, which may have impacted their ability to contribute at this time. While these realities have affected fundraising outcomes, they have also reinforced the importance and urgency of the work we continue to undertake.

Despite limited financial traction on the platform, we have remained actively engaged in delivering impactful programs and services to vulnerable populations across Grenada. The Women in Motion initiative is deeply important to our organization because it seeks to empower women and marginalized groups through skills-building, psychosocial support, economic empowerment, and access to critical services.

Currently, we are implementing several community-centered initiatives that continue to create meaningful change:

  • Business Development Training for LGBTQ+ Individuals:
We are presently facilitating a business development planning workshop series designed to equip LGBTQ+ individuals with entrepreneurial skills and knowledge to start and sustain small businesses. Fifteen participants are actively engaged in the training and are working toward the completion of their individual business plans. Participants have expressed enthusiasm and optimism about the opportunity to strengthen their economic independence and resilience.
  • SkillsFusion Training Programme:
We are also implementing our SkillsFusion training initiative, which combines both soft skills and practical hard skills development for Persons Living with HIV (PLHIV) and LGBTQ+ community members. The programme focuses on enhancing employability, self-confidence, communication, problem-solving, and livelihood opportunities for participants who often face discrimination and barriers to employment.
  • Legal and Psychological Support Services:
Through another ongoing grant-supported initiative, we continue to provide free legal and psychological services to LGBTQ+ individuals, Persons Living with Disabilities, and women affected by Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV). These services are critical in supporting survivors and vulnerable groups to access justice, emotional support, protection, and pathways toward healing and empowerment.

Although fundraising through the platform has been slower than anticipated, we remain hopeful and determined. The need for these interventions continues to grow, and we are committed to exploring new strategies to strengthen outreach, increase donor engagement, and build sustainable support for the communities we serve.

We remain grateful toGlobalGiving for providing a platform that allows grassroots organizations like ours to share our work and connect with potential supporters worldwide. We will continue to advocate, serve, and create opportunities for women and marginalized communities despite the challenges faced.
