October to December- 2016

The quarter October to December 2016 led to a new Milestone in the history of Setu and we started our journey to Transform the lives of the Specially-abled under Project “Samaan”.

The first centre to Skill Specially-abled was setup at Sadarpur Colony in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India and was formally launched on 17th November 2016. We started with 35 students who are being trained on IT skills, Tailoring and Hospitality courses.

Since the commencement of the Centre we have had to Major events in the quarter

-          First activity was celebration of disability day where we had organised drawing and colouring activity for all the students, and the

-          Second on 22nd December 2016 when we celebrated Christmas in a grand way. Volunteers from PWC took actively part in the event. Event involved wall painting and colouring activity which was jointly done by volunteers and students followed by a mime skit, cake cutting and distribution of gift by Santa.

 The Quarter also marked the Commencement of two new courses at Our Skill Centre at Nithari under Project “Saksham” in Tailoring and Basic Computer Skills, a program for Under-served women were we are giving training to women to make them self-employed and become independent in their lives. Currently we have 56 women coming in three shifts in three months course for the tailoring course and another 40 are attending the Basic IT skills course.

 Activities at the at Sadarpur Multi Skill centre continued with the launch of new batch launches in IT, Tailoring and GDA courses with 80 students undertaking training in IT, 24 in GDA and 75 students in Tailoring.

At the Skill Centres Volunteering Peaked during the Quarter

In the Basic IT course at Nithari Centre we have 97 students out of which 14 in Tally course. At the skill centers we had sessions on soft skills, interview skills, time management and career guidance wherein learning was imparted to Skill Centre Students by Volunteers from Tata Tele services, Cognizant, Price Waterhouse Coopers.

Convocations and Placement

During this quarter 40 students got placed from IT course and 10 students from GDA course were placed into Jobs in various organisations with salaries ranging from Rs 5500 to Rs 16000 a month.

 At the convocations held during the quarter Certificates were distributed to Students of Smile Step course at Nithari Centre, GDA students and Tailoring Students at Sadarpur Centre on clearing their assessment.
