Dear Reader

 

During the last Quarter we got a chance to get our  Skill Centre at Nithari renovated and the students would  like to sincerely thank our well-wishers who supported us in getting this done. The Skill Centre has a new look and now looks even more vibrant now.

New Women Empowerment Program Launch : On 9th April 2018 Setu Founders Day - Smart classes was dedicated to the students with the installation of a server and a new program a launched for Women Empowerment in courtesy Orange Foundation. Mr. Sandeep Murgai along with Mahalingam Ramanan along with the Orange team were present on the occasion.

 

Convocation at different locations

Project Saksham - Convocation at Setu Skill Centre : Ninety four students received their Certificates on completion of their Skill Course at a Convocation organised by Setu on 30/4/2018.

Fashion Design Course Convocation 2018: First PEARL ACADEMY - Setu Convocation was held on 8/6/2018. Twenty three students were felicitated. The certificates were handed over by Ms Kaveri Bamzai, Editor India Today, Ms Nandita Abraham CEO, Dr. Veena Dutta and Antonio M. Grioli from Pearl Academy along with Ravi Kaul Trustee Setu who graced the occasion. The Event concluded with a fashion show were the garments created by the Students of Setu were displayed. Also present on the occasion were the staff members from Pearl Academy and Setu and Students from Pearl. The program was hosted by Dr. Sunita Konwar Pearl and Sanjina Wali Trustee Setu.

Convocation at Setu Jaipur Skill Centre : Ms Neetu Kumari Coordinator CSR Metlife Jaipur handed over Certificates to 66 students who completed their courses . Also present on the occasion were from Setu Geetanjali Vocational Learning Head and Aditi Sharma Centre Head Jaipur Centre along with the staff members. The students also shared their experience on the occasion. Mr Ravi Kaul, Trustee, SETU, said: “We are committed to empower the under-served and promote skill development among them. By empowering women we will be able to contribute towards the up-liftment of the economically weaker sections of the society. The certification courses are a great opportunity for women to learn life skill and make a valuable contribution in nation building.” He also wished success to the graduating students.

 

Guest Lectures and Job Fair 

Guest Lectures for Fashion Design Course Students : Guest Lectures in Tailoring and Textile designing were organised at Setu for the benefit of the Fashion Design Students. The sessions were conducted by Ms. Anita, a volunteer at Setu and Mr. Yuvraj Singh from Creatnet

Guest Lectures for Setu students : Volunteers from Fidelity International conducted a series of special sessions for the Vocational Skill Students of Setu in Beauty & Wellness, Tailoring and Hospitality. Experts guided the students to create food items, garments out of waste as well as gave tips on Makeup and Grooming.

Job Fair: A job fair was organised along with NIIT foundation for students of Setu and it received overwhelming response. Two round of interviews were held and 21 students were shortlisted out of 53 who were present. The camp was also attended by Special need students and seven of them got shortlisted.

 

Activities at Special Skill Centre :

 World Environment Day: On the occasion world environment day a visit to PWC office at Gurugram was organised. Volunteers and students jointly participated in a workshop were they recycled newspapers for creating decorative baskets Eleven 11 Students participated in the event.

Summer camp at the Special Slill centre : A summer camp for students commenced on 15th May 2018 .The activities undertaken comprised of Glass Painting , Pot making, Cooking classes, Jewelry making, Dance, Yoga, Indian Sign language and Skits. Students have learnt skills according to their interest and ability. They created the material for the fund raising stall as a self-help group. They learnt instant cooking, sign language and skills to create products for sale. On an average 50 students have attended the camp – minor revenue was generated for the family. The 45 day Summer Camp at the Setu Centre for special needs students concluded with honoring all participants. The students, presented a cultural show starting with Yoga and comprised of Skits, dances and finally a fashion show. An exhibition of the products created by the students was also held. Certificates were handed over by Dr. Mohan Karki, a Yoga Guru. It was a wonderful experience for all of us - students, teachers and the Setu Management team.

 

Success Stories:

Sulbha belongs from a poor family.  She is 12th pass and currently pursuing graduation. She always wants to become independent. So, she wanted to do a job and earn for being independent as well as for improvement of her family’s condition. But she wasn’t available to find a job after completing 12th. She enrolled herself for basic IT course to fulfill her basic requirements of skills which is important for finding a good job. After successful completion of this course she grab job of Teacher at Morning Star public School with salary of Rs 6000 per month.

Her father is doing job at a private company. Her family’s annual income is Rs. 100,000/- which is insufficient to fulfill the basic need of a family of 6 members. It was hard for her father to take care of her family and also giving her money for higher education. Her mother is a homemaker and father is the only bread earner. She wants to support her father. So she joined this course.

She was very weak girl but always try to learn new things and improve her skills. After joining this course she learns to type with speed of 20 wpm. In addition she also got knowledge of personality development which helps her to improve her personality.

 

Neha belongs to a poor family. She always had a dream of doing a job to support her family. She wanted to enhance her communication skills and a desire to learn computers. She came to know about SETU from one of her friends and she enrolled herself in basic IT/ English course. After she completed her course she got a job in courier Services as Computer Operator with salary of Rs.6000 per month.

There are 8 members in her family. Her father has a small business and was the only earning member in the family. Her family’s annual income is Rs.1,20,000. She always wanted to be self - dependent and to support her father. She also wants to improve her family condition.

She was very weak in English and had no knowledge of Computer when she joined the course. She learned soon and improved her English communication skills. She worked upon his difficulties with the help of the teachers. After completing this course she gained the confidence to face the interviews and cleared her interview in first attempt.
