Women Driving Peace and Economic Development

NGO Ba Futuru, in partnership with the local organization- Organizasaun Haburas Moris (OHM), are undertaking the new 3-year version of the Women Driving Peace and Economic Development Project. 

After this project began, in order to spread messages broadly in the Bobonaro area, Ba Futuru’s theater team performed our women’s economic empowerment theater piece in a market place nearby where the training would take place. The theater advocated for more equal decision making in households and spread important basic information on business management.

In the month following the theater, trainings for the first cohort of women for Bobonaro in 2018 began, imparting knowledge to enhance women’s capacity in regard to managing their own business, identifying required resources, gaining support from other stakeholders, and encouraging women to make decisions regarding household finances. The trainings also empowered women to contribute to conflict resolution, as well as educated them about gender-based violence prevention and assistance mechanisms.

At the same time Ba Futuru has been working to support the organizational development of our remote partner OHM in Bobonaro. They have had finance training and hands-on finance system development, and have also had support in developing a website. You can find their new website here: http://www.haburasmoris.org/ As we are still in the first stage of the 3-year project the results of the project have yet to be assessed, however over the next period we will be beginning to find out more about the changes in the beneficiaries lives and we will report back to you about their progress and change brought about through your generous contributions.
