Pathways to Hope and Resilience for Vulnerable Fam

By Kellen Muthoni Mbungu | Project leader

Project Location: Nairobi county.

Nairobi hosts a large population of vulnerable households affected by poverty, unemployment, gender-based violence, and limited access to education and healthcare. This project was designed to respond to these challenges in a practical and sustainable manner.

2. Project Objectives

The main objectives of the project were to:

Provide basic needs support to vulnerable women, orphans, and children

Improve access to education for orphaned and vulnerable children

Enhance economic empowerment of women through skills training and small business support

Promote health, nutrition, and psychosocial well-being among beneficiaries

95 orphans remained in school without interruption

120 women gained practical skills, with 65% starting income-generating activities

Improved household nutrition and hygiene practices

Increased emotional well-being and confidence among women and children

The project contributed to improved resilience and self-reliance among beneficiaries.

7. Challenges Encountered

Rising cost of food and basic commodities

High demand for support beyond available resources

Emotional trauma among some beneficiaries requiring extended counseling

Despite these challenges, the project achieved its core objectives through strong community collaboration.

8. Lessons Learned

Integrated support (education, livelihoods, and health) creates stronger impact

Community involvement improves transparency and sustainability

Continued psychosocial support is critical for vulnerable populations
