Planting willow trees in 2022 in Bosnia and Herzegovina was successful. The national energy and mining company, EPBiH, expanded plantation efforts in collaboration with the miners, providing land for this in three of their mines – a total of 9 ha of land has been planted in 2022. EPBiH has created 2 new job positions for miners to permanently tend to the plantations.
The company is about to undertake analysis of the opportunity of switching a 100 MW boiler in Tuzla to burning biomass instead of coal. This would generate more demand for biomass. Plans to increase the planted area in 2023 are underway.
