Hello and happy spring to all of our project donors!
Since AWARE reached its financial goal in March to build a flight enclosure for birds of prey and an enclosure for large carnivores, we have been actively researching to determine the best enclosure design that will give us the largest and most functional enclosures for these animals. We have enlisted the help of two volunteers that have agreed to oversee development of these enclosures. Part of that process has also involved reaching out to other wildlife organizations nationally that rehabilitate similar species to understand the innovations they found important in the design process for their enclosures. Of course, AWARE has similar enclosures already in use to serve as a foundation for the new designs.
We have identified a site on our property for the raptor flight enclosure and are narrowing down a specific location for the mammal enclosure. On the heels of this discovery process is the current excitement surrounding the many foxes, raccoons, hawks, owls, and coyotes that have entered and continue to enter our doors this spring--many as youngsters. We suspect that among this group will be the first animals to make use of these new enclosures. We are very happy that these new enclosures will help speed the rehabilitation process along for all of these animals.
On behalf of the board of directors, the management team and, most importantly, the native Georgia wildlife we serve, I would like to extend sincere thanks to you for your role in the success of this project. We promise to update you soon!
Cheers!
