During the second quarter of 2026, the Southern African Conservation Trust (SACT) expanded its environmental literacy footprint across Southern Africa. In collaboration with strategic Non-Profit Organization (NPO) partners SACT coordinated the distribution of 19,313 conservation comic books and 500 classroom educational posters to rural primary schools, community eco-clubs, and wildlife rehabilitation centers across South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

Data extracted from the SACT Comic Distribution master log demonstrates widespread impact across frontline conservation landscapes:

  • SANCCOB (South African National Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds): Received 6,000 African Penguin comics for coastal marine education, eco-center visits, and community outreach in the Eastern and Western Cape.
  • The Otto Foundation: Dispatched a mixed batch of 30 comics for distribution to all 8 Otto Foundation primary school libraries in Cape Town and District Six.
  • Dyer Island Conservation Trust (DICT): Allocated 3,000 African Penguin comics and 200 Penguin posters for youth marine education in Gansbaai and along the Overberg coastline.
  • Painted Dog Conservation (PDC): Distributed a mixed batch of 3,200 conservation comics (Pangolin, Wild Dog, Elephant, Lion, and Vulture) along with 160 classroom posters across 32 rural primary schools, secondary clubs, and eco-clubs in Zimbabwe (Hwange, Lupane, Kariba, Hurungwe, and Mbire districts).
  • Children in the Wilderness (CITW): Delivered a mixed batch of 4,600 conservation comics and 140 educational posters for Wilderness eco-clubs across Zimbabwe, Zambia, and South Africa (comprised of Elephant, Vulture, Lion, Cheetah, Ground-Hornbill, and Pangolin comics).
  • Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT) & Maholoholo: Delivered 2,150 Vulture comics to EWT and Maholoholo Vulture Rehabilitation Centre for raptor protection and poison-prevention education.
  • BirdLife South Africa (EPP Program): Delivered 283 Vulture comics across rural schools, including Bangizwe Primary (Hluhluwe), 8 schools in southern Mpumalanga, and 3 schools in Ntsikeni.
  • Chipembele Wildlife Education Trust (Zambia): Received 50 Dog Care educational comics for staff training, library pilot testing, and youth animal welfare workshops in the Luangwa Valley.
Due to the continuous fulfillment of large-scale requests from partner NPOs and rural eco-clubs during the last quarter, physical inventory levels have reached a critical state.
Depending on available funding, our aim for the next quarter is to replenish inventory, meet outstanding partner requests, and launch the first 350,000 print run for our 2026 flagship edition: Vusa the Dog Guardian.

With your help, we can achieve this aim.

The images of children enjoying our comics and the letter received from CITW tell their own story. All images have been supplied by our NPO distribution partners with permission.
