Wildfires and haze have affected 65 districts and cities across seven Indonesian provinces, disrupting health, education, transport, and livelihoods. By October 18, 2026, affected areas had recorded 306,309 acute respiratory infection cases, including 69,015 among children aged 0-5. The Transport Ministry reported 1,673 domestic flights disrupted between August 11 and October 9, 2026. Families across Kalimantan, Sumatra, and other regions face hazardous smoke and interrupted daily activities.
Human Initiative will deliver masks, medical care, basic food packages, and medical oxygen to communities affected by wildfires and haze across Indonesia. Assistance will follow field assessments and prioritize children, older people, pregnant women, and families facing barriers to essential services. Working with local health teams, we will help people access treatment and oxygen when clinically needed, while providing food and protective supplies to support families through the emergency.
The project aims to reduce the health burden of wildfire smoke and help affected families recover from disruptions to daily life. Access to masks, medical care, food packages, and medical oxygen can support recovery and help prevent health conditions from worsening. By helping households meet urgent needs, the response can ease pressure on family resources and support a safer return to school, work, and community activities as air quality improves.
