AH! Here we are with our first report of the new year.
Let’s get caught up!
BIG NEWS! At last writing I said we would have exciting news to share in the new year. Well, if you haven’t already heard us whooping and woofing from the mountain tops, Wigglin’ Home Boxer Rescue, only seven months old, has been awarded SPOT Magazine's first place position for Rescue Rockstar and third place for Animal Rescue. BOOM! The best thing about these two awards? We received them thanks to our supporters who took time to VOTE for us. For supporting our mission, our vision, our work and for bestowing these titles upon us- we thank you.
Onward…
SWEET STELLA. Remember this gal? She was our white Boxer with severe injuries and undergoing extensive medical treatment. Update- she is now in her forever home and her family couldn’t be happier. She would have been put down had WHBR not rescued her and undertaken her care. Had you, our donors, not stepped in to help.
PUPPIES! New and old puppies. Huh? At last writing, we had five-day-old puppies arriving on Christmas Eve from California. Today, they are thriving and their adoptive parents are about to whisk them away to their new homes. Now to the “new” puppies. Raven was on death row in California, as so many dogs are, but Raven’s situation was different. She was pregnant and ready to have her pups at any minute. We couldn’t let an expecting mom go to the gas chamber so we grabbed her and ran! W transported her directly to a foster home where she was put in a warm, quiet area then waited. Seven puppies! WHBR and MustLuv Boxer Rescue are working together on this rescue. More on that a little later.
CHARLOTTE. In Earl’s Bank photo album, Charlotte is the little emaciated gal, with the sadly mangled ears, laying on a pink blanket. On our Facebook page we posted her foster mom’s diary pages noting Charlotte’s days from rescue day, daily struggles, frustrations and hope she had for Charlotte and her recovery mentally and physically. Sharing these with the public was twofold. To educate on steps taken, to share a bit of being a foster (albeit this was a special case) and to show the dedication our volunteers have. As I write this I believe Charlotte will meet her new mom in the next couple of days. Charlotte has had a tortured life. Her time with our foster family has given her confidence, but she has further to go to leave per past behind. We have great hope that her new mom can travel that road with her. Look for her adoption announcement on our Facebook page, it's going to be a big day for all.
Your donations help these pups. You are why we can follow through with our mission and vision to help the Boxer breed.
As we march towards our one year anniversary in July, we seek more pups to rescue; we have many ideas in the works; we continue to educate on rescue and adoption, spay and neutering, and responsible pet ownership. Of course, we hope to achieve even greater goals in 2017 and we hope you will be there with us. You saw Annie's picture at the opening of this report, she is one of several sad cases we've brought in. We're trying to get her figure back and give her lots of slow comforting pets to let her know life is OK now.
I’m pointing out the obvious when I say that we live in a world where so many people need so much from us every day-- from lending an ear to working with our hands and monetarily, to name a few. We all know what it is like to have so many organizations asking for funds and how we feel after a while. It’s even been given a name, “donor burnout”. We never want our donors to feel this way; we don’t want our donors to need a break from us or to be outright tired or annoyed with contact from our organization. Now is a good time to share what I have neglected to share in past reports, which is how hard working our WHBR volunteers work to raise money so our “ask” of you isn’t as great. One of the BIGGEST tasks our volunteers take on is working in the concession stands at the Moda Center in Portland Oregon. In this fast-paced environment, working on their feet for many hours, and giving of their time, our volunteers garner a percentage of sales for our rescue. Boy do our folks know how to pull a beer, cheese a chip and sling a hot dog! Look for us there, get a dog, and tell them you’re a donor, watch their eyes light up!
The list goes on with garage sales: profits from joint business ventures such as Scentsy, MUNCHERY, Tags for Hope: or our Pawsome Patrons partnerships with local businesses such as PNW Visiting Vet, Pilot House Distilling, Astoria Tattoo Company, Chinook Coffee Company and Buoy Beer Company It’s also as simple as asking their friends and family to register their Fred Meyer/QFC Community Rewards card and participate in Amazon Smiles when they make purchases. How about Wooftrax WalkforaDog app? Easy! Or, how about a SHIRT to help show what you believe in and spread the word about rescue! Participating in these means each time you walk or shop you help WHBR. The hardest part is remembering to register! OOH! And if you LOVE shopping, and find more joy in gift giving, we have Wish Lists on Amazon! Here are the needs of our Transport Team, Foster homes, and Healthcare.
I will leave you with this. Receipt of this report means you have donated to help Boxers in need. I hope we have expressed how thankful we are as we are so very blessed to have you backing us. We will continue to give thanks and I hope you see, in the pictures of our rescue dogs, a grateful glint in their eyes to you.
Until next time,
