Many children with disabilities in rural Uganda cannot attend school because they lack mobility support. Without wheelchairs, they face long, difficult journeys or must stay home, missing education and social inclusion. This project will supply 100 durable, terrain-appropriate wheelchairs, professional assessments, caregiver training, and follow-up support. By enabling children to move independently, we open doors to education, confidence, and community participation.
Children with disabilities in rural Uganda face severe mobility barriers that prevent them from attending school. Many must crawl, are carried long distances, or remain at home entirely. These barriers lead to missed schooling, delayed learning, social isolation, and stigma. Families living in poverty cannot afford wheelchairs or transportation, leaving children excluded from education and community life. Without intervention, children remain trapped in a cycle of exclusion and ruined future.
This project will provide 100 durable, locally appropriate wheelchairs to school-going children in rural communities. Each child receives a professional assessment to ensure proper fit and support. The project includes: Delivery of wheelchairs to homes or schools, Caregiver and school staff training for safe wheelchair use, Follow-up support, repairs, and maintenance, Community awareness activities to promote inclusion partnering with local schools, health workers, and disability organizations.
Wheelchairs give 100 children immediate access to education, independence, and confidence. Families experience reduced caregiving burdens, allowing greater economic participation. Communities become more inclusive and disability-aware. Educated children with disabilities have improved future opportunities for employment, leadership, and social participation. By breaking cycles of poverty & exclusion, this project creates lasting transformation in rural communities with children gaining dignity.
