West Women's and Children's Shelter Project Report

By Fay Schuler | Director

Over the last reporting period our services have continued to remain stable with the generous and ongoing support of our globalgiving.org donors.

We have continued to make progress towards our strategic planning goals and the overall operations of our emergency housing programs.  This progress includes implementing housing workshops apprising residents of current and available housing options, providing increased healthy and fresh food options at the shelter, establishing online giving options for donors through globalgiving.org, wellness workshops for residents, and working with the West Advisory Council to raise awareness in the community regarding our services.

In  addition to our shelter and transitional housing programs we have been able to house 10 chronically homeless families with domestic violence survivor head of households. This has greatly benefited our family population and allowed us to house families and continue to work with survivors towards increased self-sufficiency and stability.  We are doing intensive supportive services for these identified families which include home visits, ongoing case management, child care, support groups, food boxes, educational and employment assistance, and parenting support.  We feel very fortunate to have received this funding as we have seen the positive impacts which stable and supportive housing has made on this population.
