9/26/11 Program Update

By Michelle Boudet | Project Liaison

Thanks to our faithful investors, we have been able to accomplish incredible things in the past year and a half since the earthquake that devastated Haiti. Here are a few highlights:

  1. Since January 2011 we received 54 water treatment systems and currently have another 14 clearing customs.
  2. Year-to-date, we have completed 30 projects!
  3. We plan to complete 10 additional projects before year end.
  4. WMI has now opened a small office in the North to support 17 active projects and 8 locations in assessment phase for installation.
  5. In early 2012 another small branch office will be opened in the South to support 13 active projects and 8 locations in assessment phase for installation.
  6. The Country Office in Port-au-Prince is currently supporting 79 active projects and 12 locations in assessment phase for installation plus all of the projects in the South.
  7. In 2011, WMI strengthened the partnership with FFP (Food for the Poor) and entered into a partnership with CARITAS who funded 2 projects in the central department and is looking into the possibility of funding additional projects for WMI.
  8. Assessments are in process for ADRA in the SDA University and communities around it for Safe Water projects and Healthy Latrine projects. We are waiting for ADRA’s approval of funding.
  9. DINEPA is also recognized WMI and refers communities in need to approach WMI for assistance in their WASH needs. A request was made by the Mayor of Maissade and funding will be allocated by “Save the Children”.
  10. All 113 currently active projects are Community Development projects working towards self-sustainability. 83 of these projects started as disaster response and are now well on their way to self-sustainability.
  11. WMI Haiti currently has a team of 18 employees who work all over Haiti to aid communities in need of safe water and sanitation.
