Summary Progress Report
NJUWASA, the water utility responsible for Njombe Town, continues to face frequent service disruptions, leaving communities such as Mgendela, Joshini (B), and Mjimwema Ward without reliable water supply for extended periods, particularly between June and December. As a result, residents depend on an open spring, which is highly exposed to contamination from waste disposal, livestock grazing, and nearby farming activities. This situation poses significant health risks, including waterborne diseases, and underscores the urgent need for improved infrastructure and sustainable water management solutions.
To address these challenges, NJUWASA has initiated key steps, including conducting a technical assessment of affected areas, engaging local leaders and communities, and starting discussions with government authorities and potential partners. The next phase focuses on securing funds to upgrade water infrastructure, protect the spring from contamination, and implement community-led waste management and hygiene programs. These interventions aim to ensure safe and reliable water access for over 3,000 residents, reduce health risks, and promote long-term resilience in Njombe Town.
