Riders for Health’s teams in Africa are made up entirely of nationals of the countries in which we work. In the Gambia, where GlobalGiving donors are helping to support the Uhuru programme, a key member of the team is deputy programme director, Ali Ceesay. Born into a very poor family in Bansang, in the east of the country, Ali was determined to do whatever he could both to overcome his own and his family's poverty and to make a contribution to the development of the country. Here, he talks about Riders for Health and the Uhuru, and why access to reliable transportation is so vital to the people of rural Gambia.
