All over the world, people are getting ready to celebrate the holidays and preparing their homes as places of warmth-a safe space. War Child is also preparing safe spaces for children growing up in war. For 15,000 USD, War Child can establish a safe space-this can be a classroom, a tent or a community centre-where children are supported through sports, structured play, and educational activities. Where they can begin to process the traumatic experiences of war. Will you help us?
War Child creates Safe Spaces around the world for children growing up amid war. A Safe Space can be anything: a tent, a classroom, a community center, or a small outdoor field. In these protected places, children can catch their breath, process their traumatic experiences, make friends - and simply be children again. With $15,000, War Child can establish and run such a Safe Space for an entire year.
The local community is involved from the beginning in setting up each Safe Space. This ensures long-term support for the children. We train local volunteers so they can guide children in every Safe Space. This includes training the facilitators who lead sports, play, and catch-up education activities that thousands of children participate in each year. It also allows us to purchase play and learning material and maintain the Safe Space.
With a Child-Friendly Safe Spaces War Child can, for example, support 1000 conflict affected children, providing psychosocial support, learning, and play, via for example our program TeamUp. Costs include staff, materials, and program delivery, tailored to location, duration, and children's needs.
