Dear Partners,
I trust this message finds you well. We are excited to provide you with an update as we prepare for the 2026 She Creates Camp, scheduled to hold from August 9–22, 2026. Building on the success of previous years, this year’s camp will focus on equipping young girls with the skills to develop innovative solutions addressing the pressing issue of insecurity in Nigeria.
Your continued partnership and commitment remain instrumental as we work to empower the next generation of female tech leaders and change-makers.
Overview
The Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre (W.TEC) is pleased to announce our preparations for the 2026 She Creates Camp. Following the success of the 2025 camp, which trained 40 girls in eco-sustainability with technology, we are building on that momentum to address another critical national issue. The 2026 camp will bring together girls from various schools and diverse backgrounds to explore how technology can be leveraged to tackle insecurity challenges in Nigeria.
This year, the curriculum is designed to inspire and equip the girls with the knowledge, skills, and hands-on experience needed to become innovators and advocates for safer communities.
Camp Objectives
The 2026 She Creates Camp aims to:
- Introduce participants to technology concepts such as the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), and geospatial tools in the context of security.
- Guide participants in developing hands-on projects that address real-world insecurity issues, such as early warning systems, community safety apps, or surveillance tools.
- Strengthen participants’ interest in STEM careers, particularly in fields related to security, defense, and civic technology.
- Build leadership and problem-solving skills through immersive workshops and excursions focused on community resilience and safety practices.
Planned Activities
Participants will engage in a two-week intensive program that includes:
- Hands-on Tech Workshops: Coding, IoT device creation, AI basics, and data analysis tailored to security solutions.
- Project Development: Small group work to design and prototype practical solutions to insecurity challenges in their communities.
- Expert Sessions: Guest lectures from professionals in technology, security, and civic innovation.
- Excursions: Visits to relevant organizations or innovation hubs to observe real-world applications of technology in safety and security.
- Mentorship: Guidance from W.TEC facilitators, volunteers, and industry mentors throughout the project lifecycle.
Evaluation Approach
To assess the effectiveness of the 2026 camp, we will utilize evaluation tools similar to those used in 2025, which provided valuable insights into participant growth:
1. Pre-Camp Evaluation Test: At the start of the camp, participants will complete a series of open-ended questions to assess their baseline understanding of security issues, their familiarity with relevant technologies (AI, IoT, etc.), and their interest in STEM careers.
2. Post-Camp Evaluation Test: At the conclusion of the camp, participants will answer similar questions to measure new knowledge gained, shifts in interest, and their confidence in using technology to address insecurity.
Expected Outcomes
Drawing from the positive results of the 2025 camp—where we saw significant increases in participants’ interest in STEM, understanding of sustainability, and intent to continue learning—we anticipate similarly strong outcomes for 2026. Based on our projections and past performance, we expect:
- A notable increase in participants’ interest in pursuing STEM careers, particularly in fields related to technology and security.
- Enhanced awareness of insecurity challenges and the role technology can play in creating solutions.
- Development of functional prototypes or project concepts addressing safety issues.
- High participant satisfaction and a strong likelihood of recommending the program to peers.
We are confident that the 2026 She Creates Camp will fulfill its objectives of educating, inspiring, and empowering 50 young girls to become active contributors to national security and community safety through technology.
We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the GlobalGiving team and all our partners for your unwavering support. Your partnership has played a huge role in making the She Creates Camp a success, and we are excited to continue this journey with you as we work together to empower the next generation of female tech leaders and innovators. We look forward to sharing the outcomes of the 2026 camp with you.
Thank you for being such an important part of this mission.
Warm regards,
The W.TEC Team
