VITA: Volunteer Initiative in Turkey and Armenia

Thank you for your donations and your support of the VITA: Volunteer Initiative in Turkey and Armenia program put forth by HasNa Inc. Due to your continued support, a network of individuals dedicated to volunteering, community service, and civic engagement is currently being established throughout and across the borders of Turkey and Armenia. Since the end of April 2013, much progress has been made in regards to the VITA: Volunteer Initiative in Turkey and Armenia program’s planning and implementation stages. We at HasNa have been active in organizing important aspects of the VITA program planning process and over the course of the last three months we have solidified partnership with two organizations, one in Ankara, Turkey and the other in Yerevan, Armenia. These partners will contribute to the implementation of the program in Washington, DC, and will coordinate and oversee pre and post program activities and components in Turkey and Armenia, respectively.

HasNa Inc. has selected two program partners in Ankara, Turkey and Yerevan, Armenia after a thorough analysis of interest and experience working with youth and civic engagement. The Youth Participation and Intercultural Dialogue Association (Turkey) and Alphabet of Rights, NGO (Armenia) have been selected to serve as partners. With the assistance of their Program Coordinators, the three organizations, including HasNa Inc., have been successful in compiling participant selection criteria, disseminating information, negotiating the timeline and schedule of activities, and promoting the mission of the program within their respective countries.

In addition, with the assistance of our partner organizations, the VITA program officially put out a “Call for Participants” at the end of May until the beginning of June 2013. Through the use of the HasNa website, our partner organizations’ websites, and networks within the countries, the VITA program received more than 90 applications in merely 3 weeks. Upon collection of the applications, the three Program Coordinators will review all potential candidates. The applications will then be shortlisted. Those shortlisted will be contacted for a joint interview with the Program Coordinators and the management at HasNa Inc., as a way to ensure that the values and the mission of the program are clearly understood. This process should take approximately one month.

We are working hard to have the Washington, DC component of the program implemented during the winter of 2013/2014. The Turkey/Armenia component will follow the success of the training in the United States.

From all of us at HasNa and our partner organizations, thank you for your donation and continued support. We will be sure to keep informed on updates as the program progresses. If you have any suggestions of ways to improve this program, we would appreciate your input!
