Even though floodwaters have receded, recovery continues in Peru.

Heavy rains that spanned several months overwhelmed infrastructure in many areas, and flash floods killed more than 150 people in the country. More than 150,000 people were displaced from their homes, and the country is starting to rebuild in what may be a years-long effort.

Even as the headlines have ceased, VIDA and vital partner Direct Relief continue to send emergency aid, with $5.5 million in supplies provided to clinics throughout the country - administering medical care to people in Peru.

As Direct Relief’s primary partner in Peru we continue with emergency medical response in coordination with Peru’s Ministry of Health.

In Lima - water was turned off for several days due to the flood damage.

Your support of our aid shipments are critical and effective. We look forward to your continuing support

Gracias

VIDA USA has just sent two 40' Ocean containers carrying nearly $1 million in aid to Lima. The first shipment contains hospital beds, exam tables, wheelchairs, walkers, and crutches.  Also included in this shipment is a second set of eye exam equipment valued at over $50,000 and an entire pallet of multi and prenatal vitamins that will benefit thousands of mothers and children.  The second shipment is comprised of medical supplies, from diapers to sutures to surgical kits.  Both of these shipments will be distributed to over 20 clinics and also benefit Puente de VIDA program, our mobile clinic program that brings healthcare to forgotten communities.

VIDA is also coordinating shipments of medicine from our two partners - Americares and Direct Relief - which will have a combined value of over $2 million.  VIDA and our partners are deeply grateful for the support from the Global Giving community!

VIDA USA shipped two containers in October carrying lifesaving aid to benefit projects in Lima, Arequipa and Ayacucho. The shipments contain hospital beds, exam tables, wheelchairs, walker and crutches along with $1.25 million in medical supplies.   Included in one of the shipments are $50,000 in eye exam equipment and 1,000 glasses that will be used by U.S. based optometrists who will be volunteering in the impoverished regions outside of Arequipa with Quechua Benefits, a nonprofit working in some of the most remote regions in Peru.  The traveling team will move from village to village scattered throughout the Andes providing free eye exams and distributing free eye glasses.

The remainder of the supplies and equipment will be distributed to urban clinics in Lima and Ayacucho which provide free healthcare to those in need.  It is because of your generosity that VIDA is able to send these shipments at no cost to the beneficiaries!

VIDA USA airlifted over $3 million in donated medicine to projects in the greater Lima area.  The shipment concentrated primarily on antibiotics as access to safe drinking water remains a challenge in the poorest districts of Peru.  Due to the large donation that will benefit over 25,000 patients, VIDA is collaborating with the Ministry of Health who has an extensive network of clinics and hospitals that serve Peru's poorest citizens.  In addition VIDA will be sending the medication to over two dozen of our partner clinics and hospitals.  VIDA is also supplying doctors and nurses who volunteer with our Puente de Vida program that brings healthcare to some of Peru's hardest to reach regions as well as to the growing communities located on the barren mountains ringing Lima.  It is estimated that nearly 500,000 people live in make-shift shelters made out of discarded cardboard, plywood and/or sheet metal and have no running water in the communities surrounding Lima.

VIDA recently served over 500 people in one day though Puente de Vida in upper Pamplona.  VIDA is also preparing two new containers of medical supplies and equipment that will be on the water in late August.

We thank all of our donors for making our mission possible.

Hello wonderful supporters of VIDA!

We thank you for the past and the future as we continue to aid the people in need in Peru.

We work with a variety of hospitals and small clinics -  providing hospital beds, exam tables and other much needed equipment and supplies. We partner with Peru’s Ministry of Health and generous transportation and logistics by Otis McAllister Inc.to bring medical aid to benefit thousands of people in Lima all year long.

Thank you for making this unique and impactful meidcal relief program possible through your donations.

Please consider providing monthly donations - even $10 a month goes along way in our programs.
