Imagine what it feels like to have survived a disaster. For months, rain drips through the ceiling, the floor sags under your feet, and the walls no longer feel like protection. Each day is a reminder of what was lost—and the weight of wondering if things will ever be whole again.
Then one day, hope arrives. Volunteers show up—smiling, ready to work, treating you not as a project, but as a person. You hear hammers, laughter, and the sound of kindness rebuilding your home. You feel seen. You feel remembered.
A safe roof overhead means no more sleepless nights when storms roll in. A sturdy floor means your children can play without fear. Freshly painted walls mean your house feels like home again.
This is what ROAD looks like to a survivor:
Relief replacing fear.
Dignity restored.
A future that feels possible again.
