As was true for schools throughout Uganda, the Hope Institute for Transformational Leadership and Development was forced to close its vocational programs for several months this year due to the spread of COVID 19. The government's agressive actions enabled the school to reopen to students on October 19, 2020, amidst strict guidelines to prevent the transmisson of COVID to students and teachers.
In an environment where the possibility of virtual learning is very limited, it is essential to maintain the health and well being of students and faculty alike. For this reason, the Friends of Canon Gideon Foundation, USA aims to assist the Hope Institute with the financial costs of providing teacher training, masks, hand sanitizer and the erection of physical barriers to maintain social distance by devoting our annual fundraiser to prevent the spread of Covid-19. Our intention is to raise a total of $5,000 by the end of the year, December 31, 2020. Of this, $3,000 will be allocated to the Covid response and $2,000 to the creation of a library and study space within an existing building.
This space must be remodeled and expanded to create a library in keeping with a requirement of a State Accreditation Board. The library will be the repository for vocational training manuals in all the disciplines offered at the school and a computer for online research and learning.
