Thank you so much for your help to fund our vocational training programs for Boko Haram victims and other war-affected adolescent girls in Nigeria. The project is now close to 80 percent funded and approaching the finish line!
The COVID-19 pandemic has created unforeseen and heartbreaking challenges for countless people across the world -- especially those marginalized, traumatized, and displaced by war and conflict. When hunger reached crisis levels this spring and food relief was being cut back in Uganda and Nigeria, we stepped in with emergency food assistance for the families of the conflict-affected adolescent girls we serve. But feeding someone for a day, or a week, isn’t enough – what is truly needed are the skills that will help them feed themselves for a lifetime. This has always been at the core of our mission.
Our Nigeria team has shifted our skills training focus in response to evolving needs on the ground. We’ve been researching what it would take to launch a pilot agriculture skills training program for the adolescent girls we serve in Malkohi IDP camp, to offer in addition to our bakery and catering programs. Malkohi camp officials have agreed to allow our use of some land as a demonstration and training site for dry season farming methods. Once we have sufficient funding, we can launch the program!
ChildVoice’s vocational training programs are made possible only by the support of donors like you who care about the lives of vulnerable, war-traumatized girls. With the pandemic continuing to impact everyday life for all of us, we thank you for your ongoing support. Together, we can make change happen!
