KOSHISH, a leading mental health organization in Nepal, has made significant strides in helping women who have suffered from violence to overcome their trauma and rebuild their lives. As part of the "Help 100 Women Suffering from Violence in Nepal" project, KOSHISH has successfully supported 15 women in their journey towards healing and empowerment.
Trauma Recovery and Mental Health Support
The first step in the rehabilitation process for these women involved providing intensive mental health support. Psychiatric doctors, Psychologist, Nurses, Caregivers offered personalized trauma-informed care, ensuring that each woman received the emotional and psychological support needed to process their experiences. This included one-on-one counseling sessions, group therapy, and peer support initiatives, which created a safe space for the women to share their stories and begin the healing process.
Skill Development and Economic Empowerment
Recognizing the importance of economic independence in breaking the cycle of violence, KOSHISH also focused on skill development for these women. The organization involved those women (according to their ability and skills) in agriculture/farming, poultry farming, beads making, art and craft sessions which has helped them to develop skills to generate income and gain financial autonomy.
Community Reintegration and Ongoing Support
KOSHISH ensured that the support extended beyond the initial rehabilitation phase. The organization's outreach team worked closely with local communities to facilitate the reintegration of these women, helping to reduce stigma and promote acceptance. Through awareness programs and community dialogues, KOSHISH has been instrumental in creating a more supportive environment for survivors of violence.
The organization continues to provide follow-up support, including access to mental health services, mentoring, and networking opportunities, ensuring that these women remain on a positive path of recovery and growth.
Conclusion
The efforts of KOSHISH in this project have had a transformative impact on the lives of 15 women who have suffered from violence. Through a combination of mental health support, skill development, and community reintegration, these women have been empowered to overcome their past traumas and build brighter, more independent futures. This work represents a critical step towards achieving the broader goal of helping 100 women across Nepal, and KOSHISH remains committed to extending its support to even more survivors in the coming months.
