Dear supporters,
As we stated in our previous report, the water harvesting system was deteriorating due to use and age. Even though the project leaders have been talking about the need for repair, we wanted and hoped that the idea will come from the community. We wanted them to lead the repair process and own the project. When communities own a project they protect and invest in it. In the cse of our project in Atebes the community raised 5000.00 Birr on their own initiative. Their representatives also signed a repair contract for the water harvesting system with an expert for 15,000.00 Birr. The CCB wired the balance to the contractor for his work. The followign work was conducted.
1 - Remove the old gutter from the roof
2 - Install new gutter to the roof (about 100 meter)
3 - Install a wide water that directs the water to the two black and white water containers (tanks)
4. Landscape improvement around the concrete surface system so that water can be directed through gravity.
Activities 1, 2 and 3 related to the roof water harvesting system are completed. Any drop of water on the roof will be collected. The improvement on the surface water harvesting is in progress now and will be completed soon.
Thank you for your continued support. With your support we will complete our project and upscale it to other villages.
Sincerely,
Amanuel Gebru and Tsegay Wolde-Georgos
