Dear partners and supporters,
The situation in Tigray where our project village is located has affected all ways of life. The war that started about nine months ago still continues. The international community had been pushing the Federal Ethiopian government and its foreign and local partners to withdraw from Tigray and respect basic human rights. We hear reports of the destruction of livelihood sources such as domestic animals. There had been some reversal of fortunes in the war front recently where the Federal Government was pushed out of Tigray leading to some hopes that there will be the restoration of peace in the region and all warring factions leave Tigray. The US and the EU had been pushing for that.
Even though the Ethiopian Federal Gov is out of Tigray there still is no telephone connection, power, banking system or free flow of goods and services with Tigray. Literally Tigray is under siege by all its neighboring states and Eritrea. There is fear of impeding famine unheard and unseen before in the region.
With the changes in local power and the pressure of the international community to lift the siege on Tigray, we hope that peace will previal in the area so that we can resume out project work and merge it with the post war reconstruction at the local level. More will needed to be done following this carnage.
Lets keep the people in the village and beyond in our prayers for peace and safety.
Again, thank you for your support and patience and I will keep you updated when major developments emerge. Peace.
